With Blaze yet to win a competitive match this season, all eyes were set on Panthers to finish this weekends double header with a win. However, things didn't quite turn out as straight forward as that. With Coventry Blaze finally starting to take some shape, Panthers jumped onto the ice with a big challenge on their hands. With Coventry Blaze forced to play back up goalie Tom Murdy as Brett Jaeger took ill, Blaze's defence was left with the task of supporting Murdy the best they could.

The first period saw Blaze take charge of the game. With quick plays from all the Blaze forwards, it was left to Panthers goalie(Kowalski) to step up. Despite all the effort shown by the Blaze, it wasn't in till 18.03 that their efforts paid off. With assists coming from Greg Owen and Luke Fulghum, Brad Zanon scored for the Blaze, making some good of their otherwise unsuccessful powerplay performance. The first period ended 1-0 with Tom Murdy really shining throughout the period.

The second period saw the Nottingham Panthers slowly creep back into the game. With two short handed goals coming Matthew Myers. The first goal came at 27.16 with an assist from player/coach Corey Neilson. The second goal was a little controversial. As referee Darnell started losing control of the game, Myers took the puck into Blaze's defensive zone and scored at 28.40 (unassisted).

With Coventry Blaze now losing 2-1, They needed a quick goal to get back into the game. At 34.47 Luke Fulghum equalised, with assists coming from Carlson and Fussey. The period ended 2 all with the Blaze defence really pulling through for Murdy, and Panthers started to get back into the game.

The third period started badly for the Blaze, as Panthers scored through David Beauregard at 34.47 with assists coming from Zion and Ryan. With Panthers now in the lead, Blaze were forced to really push themselves to bring the game back. However, tiredness was starting to show, and despite all efforts, it just didn't seem to click for them. With time running out, it looked like Panthers would take home another victory yet again. But as Panthers got called for interference at 58.07, Coventry called a time out. With Blaze now on the offensive, fans were left nervously on the edge of their seats. Then, it happened. The equaliser came from Owen Fussey at 58.35 with assists coming from Carlson and Weaver, ending the first challenge cup game as a draw.
