Coventry Blaze got there first league win this weekend in a high scoring game that saw them get 9 goals past the Dundee Stars. With Brett Jaeger returning between the pipes for the Coventry Blaze this weekend, having falling ill last Saturday.
The first period started with a bang, as Greg Owen scored at 3:58 with help from Chambers and Brian Lee. With things starting so well for the Coventry Blaze, it came as quite a shock when John Dolan (Mark Nebus and Lomanno with the assists) scored for the Dundee Stars at 6:49 while being short handed. It wasn't intill the ten minute mark was reached till the next goal. Which, Dan Carlson scored with help from Luke Fulghum and Zanon at 10:37. Things started to go down hill fast for the Stars then. With Owen Fussey then extending the Blaze lead at 14:30 with Sean Selmser at Chambers picking up the assists. The first period ended with the Coventry Blaze winning 3-1, and Jaeger having a nice easy start back to the league having only blocking 6 shots.
Dundee Stars came back onto the ice with a bit more focus, which led to Steve Makway scoring on a powerplay at 22:15 with Brent hughes and Ceman with the assists. Once again, Dundee started strong. But it was short lived. Jeff Smith (assists from Selmser and Nell) scored at 24:19, then Luke Fulghum scoring at 26:02 with Owen Fussey's help. The score was now 5-2, and Dundee Stars fan knew they were in for a bad night. At 29:21 Blaze defence man Jonathan Weaver scored for the Blaze after some great team work from Sean Selmser and Aaron Nell. The goals didn't stop coming. As Fussey (Greg Owen with the assist) scored again at 37:07 on a powerplay. The period ended with Brian Lee (assist from Sean Selmser) scoring at 39:10 on another Blaze Powerplay.
With the game now out of reach for the Dundee Stars and Coventry Blaze having done there job, only one goal appeared in the third period. Jonathan Weaver scored at 52:37 with Fussey and Chambers picking up the assist.
The Coventry Blaze now face the Sheffield Steelers at home tomorrow night in there second Challenge Cup game, while Dundee Stars have the long trip home tonight to face the Belfast Giants tomorrow.
