British forward Matty Davies is hoping to rejoin Excel Hull Stingrays’ bid to qualify for the Rapid Solicitors Elite League play-offs as soon as possible.

Davies, who turned 22 on Wednesday, was hospitalised with concussion after a hit from behind by Dundee Stars forward Jeff Hutchins – who received a match penalty - during Stingrays’ 3-2 win after penalty shots at Hull Arena last Sunday.

He is now back at home recuperating and will miss tonight’s trip to Belfast Giants and Sunday’s home clash with Cardiff Devils but is keen to get back on to the ice soon.

Davies said: “I am feeling a lot better. Thankfully there was no damage to my neck which is what we thought at first.

“I remember waiting for the puck and then heading into the boards but I don’t remember a lot after that. It was a weird feeling.

“I have watched the incident. He has apologised to me and he feels bad. It’s just one of those things.

“No-one wants to be injured, especially at this time of the year. It has not been the best of seasons for me as it is. I was hoping for a good end to the season but hopefully I will be back soon.”

Meanwhile, teenage forward Bobby Chamberlain has been named in the Great Britain Under-18 squad for their World Championship campaign in Holland next month.

Stingrays take on Cardiff Devils at Hull Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday February 19 (6pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Hull Arena Box Office on 01482 325252.
