Teenage netminder Andy Brummitt admitted he had mixed emotions after making his Excel Hull Stingrays debut at the weekend.

The 18-year-old summer signing replaced Canadian Christian Boucher for the third period of the Rapid Solicitors Elite League clash at Cardiff Devils on Saturday with Stingrays trailing 6-2.

Brummitt faced 17 shots, conceding just twice, as Stingrays produced a third-period rally to eventually lose 8-5, although they gained revenge with a 2-1 win over Devils after penalty shots in Hull on Sunday night.

He said: “I always prepare for every game in the same way and stay focused just in case you might get a chance.

“But when Clouts [player-coach Sylvain Cloutier] told me I was going in for the third period I was pretty excited and nervous at the same time.

“I had a shaky start, there was a big crowd and it is a tough building. The early goal shook my confidence but I tried to stay mentally strong and thought I played a decent game and made some good saves.

“It is tough not getting much action but Bouch has been fantastic all season. He told me he thought I played well so that was good to hear.

“I was happy I got a chance to play but upset because the team was not doing well.”

Stingrays take on Coventry Blaze at Hull Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Friday February 3 (7.30pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Hull Arena Box Office on 01482 325252.
