The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Invicta Dynamos Head Coach Kevin Parrish has moved to strengthen his defence ahead of the January signing deadline with the capture of 21 year old Canadian defenceman Chris Borges. Borges, younger brother of current non-EIHA trained forward Daniel Borges, has arrived in the country to train with the team and should be eligible to go straight into action against the Chelmsford Chieftains on home ice on this Sunday.
Born in Brampton, Ontario Chris Borges found his way into the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL) – a junior ‘A’ hockey league – in the 2006/07 season as he featured for his hometown team – the Brampton Capitals. Wearing number 25 the defenceman iced 46 times during the regular season picking up 16 points including three game winning goals before another ten appearances and three points in the playoffs. The following term he then switched to the Georgetown Raiders in the same league where he progressed as he almost posted higher numbers year on year beginning with a 23 point return from 55 fixtures back on the blue line. In 2008/09 Borges was then selected as ‘Best Defenceman’ in the Mackinnon Division of the OJHL after he tallied 16 goals and 35 assists from 60 games and he came close to equalling that record in his last year with the club as he managed 49 points from 54 outings in 2009/10. Most recently the skater spent preseason with the Fayetteville Fireantz, a professional minor league team based in North Carolina playing in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), but now he moves across the pond to join the Invicta Dynamos and could return to the ice this Sunday for the crunch tie against rivals Chelmsford.
Speaking on the capture of his new defenceman Head Coach Kevin Parrish revealed that he considered bolstering his blue line options the priority following recent injuries and that he was pleased to now have Canadian Chris Borges at his disposal. Parrish said, “Over the last couple of weeks I have been looking at how best to strengthen the team and, with two of our defenceman recently succumbing to lower body injuries, it was a no-brainer that a ‘D’-man was what we needed most. It has been a long time since we have had an ‘import’ defenceman on the books but I’m confident the squad already has enough offensive power and, coupled with the recent return of Jack Tarczycki, we’re now also shaping up a little better at the back”. Parrish then went on to suggest the new arrival should settle in quickly and said he looked forward to seeing him in action when he added, “Chris is already over here and has been training with us this week and we hope he will quickly feel at home given that his brother has been with us since September. Assuming all goes well with his International Transfer Card (ITC) he will be straight in the thick of the action on Sunday against Chelmsford and he could play an important role given that defenceman Anthony Lennon is ruled out and Tim Smith is still a doubt”. Finally the coach then gave a brief insight into what the supporters should expect from their new Canadian when he said, “At six foot Chris is a presence back on the blue line but his statistics from Canada also show he can get amongst the goals and has an eye for a pass out from the back. We have been short in defence in recent weeks but I’m confident he will fit right in and help push us on as we try and defend the ENIHL Southern Championship”.
New signing Chris Borges will wear shirt number four for the Invicta Dynamos.
