The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
The defending Premier Cup champions, Guildford Flames Ice Hockey team, have advanced to the cup semi finals by virtue of a top 4 finish through 18 games of the qualifying round. They will oppose the Slough Jets over a two leg aggregate goal affair. Spectrum’s team will host Leg 2 of the event on Wednesday, March 2nd at 7:30pm with the opening leg in Slough on Wednesday, February 16th at 8pm. The 2nd leg at Spectrum will be an Eagle Radio Kids Go Free match.
Surrey’s team finished 2nd in the Cup table with 31 points from 15 wins plus a point awarded during an overtime defeat. The Jets finished just 1 place lower with 27 points from 13 wins and 1 overtime loss. In head to head Cup round play, the Flames managed 6-2 win in Slough shortly after the season began, but dropped a 4-2 home start about 3 weeks after that.
The winner of the semi final will advance to the championship round to complete the competition and crown the first trophy winner this season. Last year, the Flames captured the title with a 6-1 home win over league champion Milton Keynes Lightning before edging the same team on the road by a 4-3 count to secure the trophy and a 10-4 aggregate win. The Flames have also picked up Cup silver on three other occasions; claiming the Benson & Hedges Plate in 1998, the ntl: Christmas Cup in 2001 and their first Premier Cup in 2007.
Flames Head Coach Paul Dixon and his men are looking forward to the opportunity to continue defence of their title:
“It seems like the semi final against Slough is a scheduled annual event. It is not only exciting to be able to have an opportunity to see if we can advance to defend our cup win from last year, but doing it against a local rival adds that much more spark to the series. It is something we are all really looking forward to. We have had an interesting set of games against Slough already in that we have both won a pair of games but neither team has won on home ice yet, which might be a critical part of the outcome of the 2 leg set. Slough has a very good team. They have some top skilled players and also can play a solid physical game so it should be a great 2 games and a tight contest for a place in the finals.”
