Devils lose Sawyer... but gain Voth?
Cardiff Devils travel north to Whitley Bay on Saturday without giant 6'6" defenceman Justin Sawyer after the Canadian returned home for "personal reasons".
Sawyer is good friends with Vipers forward Jamie Carroll and was on Newcastle's radar in the summer until the Devils came in for him.
Now there is to be no reunion for the two who played last year in Bloomington in the IHL.
However while the Devils will lose 6'6" on the blueline, they could add 6'5" to their forward lines.
Going against established protocols we will not add the words "Big" and "Bad" to the front of Brad Voth's name, but the Devils talismanic former captain could be ready to return to action this weekend.
Voth injured his hand early season against Sheffield Steelers and has returned to training and could be back in the lineup this weekend.
Vipers forward Jamie Carroll said: "I know some of the guys on the Cardiff team, and they are a tough physical team.
"Their rink is a similar size to ours so they know how to play on small ice.
"We have to come out as we did against Hull with energy and aggression and be ready from the first puck drop."
It's the first of two meetings in five days as the teams meet in Cardiff on Wednesday night, 27th, after a Sunday trip to Hull Stingrays.

Advance rates expire at 5pm on Friday night. Match tickets can be purchased on the night from the box office at the rink but sales are cash only.
