Devils skate to win over Flyers
A delay in the face-off of almost an hour failed to put off Devils as they came back from a 2-0 first period deficit to record their 3rd straight win over Scottish opposition and move 5 points clear of Coventry in the race for 4th spot in the standings.
For Flyers however, their play-off hopes took another dent and they are now some 7 points outside the 8th spot they need.
Although Flyers arrived late they wasted no time in taking the game to Devils and led with a Chris Wands strike after 5.59. Not surprisingly Devils had far more of the play in the opening period but were unable to beat Garrett Zemlak in the Flyers net, while at the other end player/coach Todd Dutiaume took advantage of space in the Devils zone to fire his side 2-0 ahead at 18.07.
Devils were becoming frustrated at their inability to break through the well marshalled flyers defence but it all started to go right for the homesters when Jeff Pierce scored at 35.27. A momentum shift the way of the Devils at last and they levelled thanks to Kenton Smith on the powerplay at 37.59.
Devils scored the go-ahead goal and game winner at 46.06 with Mark Richardson on the mark on a 5 on 3 powerplay and with Flyers unable to repeat the finishing of earlier in the game it was left to Scott Matzka to net the insurance into the empty net with 54 seconds remaining.
