The Wightlink Raiders are delighted to confirm the signing of big defenceman Dominic Hopkins and the ever reliable Stewart Tait for the new season.

For 30 year old Dom Hopkins it will be his fifth season in total in a Raiders jersey. He was a key member of the title winning team from last season, posting impressive stats of 19 goals and 31 assists during the campaign making him by far the most prolific defenceman in the ENL.

Player coach Jeremy Cornish says Dom was a priority signing for him this year.

“Dom is not only a big presence, he had a career year going forward. His big shot is of NHL quality and we will be leaning on him again this year for offense from the defense. We are very excited about having him back for another season and in speaking with him, he is even more excited about chasing more silverware with the Raiders.”

Also returning for his 4th season in two stints for the Raiders is 30 year old utility man Stewart Tait. Stewart has been a key member of the Raiders set up since the switch to ENL and Cornish says his experience and commitment will be a key factor again this season.

“Stewart was an important member of last years team and this season we are very happy to have him back. Both him and Dom travel a lot of miles each week and they are truly committed to the Raiders cause. Taity brings a tremendous amount of experience which is going to be vital to this years younger side. He is also skilled enough he can play forward and defense and with so many new guys this season it will be good to have that versatility.”

Tait himself is looking forward to the challenge of retaining the league title.

“I think Jeremy has done a fantastic job in recruiting the squad for the new season, he has once again provided signings with bags of potential and complimented that with some experience which is essential in any team. We have a real chance of defending the title and I am sure everyone will be committed to the cause leaving the fans happy with what we achieve and proud of the team they are watching.”

The roster for 2011-2012 is now almost complete with just a couple of spots left to fill.
