Blackburn Eagles

The re branded Flintshire Freeze kicked off the NIHLD2 North season in style last night as the Deeside Dragons took on the Blackburn Eagles. Blackburn Eagles similar to the Dragons underwent a face lift during the off season as the former Lancashire Raptors became Eagles in order to align themselves with the Blackburn Hawks in the NIHL1 to show players a development path up the ladder. The Hawks had a successful season last season narrowly missing out on the Play-off trophy.

Deeside underwent a huge facelift during the off-season, no only re branding the team, but the rink got a bar licence, they updated the web site and the whole organization has a more professional feel to it than many of the other clubs in the league.

Deeside Dragons travelled to Blackburn Eagles and didn't waste any time in showing there intention for not only the game but the rest of the league season as Steve Fellows scored the first goal, ex Blackburn Hawk player Tom King then added a second less than ten minutes into the game. Si Furnival took the Dragons first ever penalty with two minutes for cross-checking just before the end of the first period.

Tom King then added a second to his earlier tally five minutes after the re-start of the second period, the next dragons goal came from hot shot Shaun Kippin a player who many teams tried to sign but Deeside got their man and he showed why as he made it 4-0 at the 32 minute mark. Tom King then completed his hat-trick less than one minute later to show any Blackburn Hawks management in attendance what they are missing out on. Then old time Deeside Dragon Pete Founds piled on the misery to Blackburn Eagles to make it 6-0 before the end of the period

The third saw no way back for the poor Eagles as ex Blackburn players kept coming back to haunt them Aaron Davies scoring a short hand goal at 48:15 and then grabbing himself the next goal at 52:18 before Brian Worrall rounding off the scoring to leave the score 9-0 Deeside. Tom King helped himself to the man of the match award as Deeside Dragons started the NIHL season as they mean to go on.
