Newcastle Vipers netminder Charlie Effinger wants to finish the season with two wins against the Dundee Stars this weekend. The Winn Solicitors Vipers welcome the Scottish outfit to Whitley Bay Ice Rink on Saturday (7.00pm) before travelling the one hundred and eighty miles to Dundee on Sunday (6.30pm).

“We are going to compete to win games this weekend, regardless of our position in the playoff race” said Effinger. “Since early December, this group of players have kept a 'never say die' mentality. We’ll all look to carry this mindset into our weekend games against Dundee.”

Despite all the off ice problems this season, having taken the decision to head to Newcastle to combine playing with studying, it isn’t something Effinger regrets.

“My experience with the Vipers' organisation has been a great challenge, but very rewarding. Newcastle is a great city. Geordies are friendly people and great sport fans. While the team has faced great obstacles on and off the ice, I feel my teammates' continued effort reflects the hard-working culture in the North East. I also want to the thank Newcastle Business School for offering an excellent opportunity to learn in the classroom. From the new facility to the quality tutors, Northumbria University is first class and a great place to study.

“I’d like to thank the entire organisation. Jamie Longmuir and Danny Stewart deserve recognition for keeping the organisation alive throughout the season. I want to thank my team-mates for their continuing to compete, even in the face of great obstacles. Finally I want to thank the loyal Vipers' fans. Without their continued support, their team would not have survived the season. I am happy that the team has delivered some big wins in the second half of the season. I am also proud that we have kept hockey alive in the North East for the 2010-2011 season. I look forward to seeing Vipers' fans at our games against Dundee this weekend.
