Fife run Panthers all the way
A remarkable display by Flyers goaltender Garret Zemlak in which he saved 74 of 76 shots on his goal took league challengers Panthers all the way to a penalty shootout where the home side were mightily relived to win the extra point thanks to David-Alexandre Beauregard being the only scorer in the 1 on 1 contest.
Final shots of 76 to 11 told the story of this game as Panthers laid siege and when they built a 2-0 lead in the opening period thanks to strikes by Scott Champagne at 11.36 and Matt Francis at 16.29 there seemed no way back for the Scots side.
However, despite few chances falling their way it was Flyers who took advantage of a powerplay opportunity at 28.02 and Matt Siddall fired home for 2-1, the score at the 2nd period break.
It remained almost 1-way traffic in the 3rd period as it had done in the opening couple but Zemlak was simple astounding and could not be breached and at 49.06 the NIC crowd were stunned when recent Flyers signing Toms Hartmanis tied the game at 2-2.
More Panthers pressure both in the remainder of regulation and overtime but no winner could be found – until Beauregard finally found a way to unlock Zemlak in the shootout.
