Greg Chambers will bring more than 400 games of pro experience to the Guildford Flames ice hockey club when the new season commences in September. The Canadian forward moves to Spectrum after a pair of seasons with Coventry Blaze where he tallied 34 goals and 122 points in 111 starts. In 2009-2010, his first at Blaze, the 28 year old registered 25 goals and 50 assists to help the club to the EIHL title. He also earned an ice hockey journalist selection to the league’s 2nd all-star team along the way. His UK experience began back in 2005-2006 when the 5’11”, 210lb skater joined the Basingstoke Bison. He remained with the Herd for 4 consecutive seasons, posting an impressive offensive showing with 93 goals and 253 points over his longest stretch with a single club.

His first stop out of junior hockey was a single playoff game in 2002-2003 with the Missouri River Otters in America’s United Hockey League. He started the next season with the East Coast League’s Pensacola Ice Pilots where he had 12 goals and 30 assists in 57 games before following that up with 34 points at Varese in Italy; his final stop before debuting on UK soil.

Internationally, Chambers represented the Blaze during their participation as the reigning league champions in the Continental Cup last season where the team held a 2 and 1 record against competitors from France, Poland, and a Latvian based Belarusian side. He has also iced in World Championship play for Team Great Britain. In 15 games with the national squad, Chambers has 6 goals and 14 assists. During the 2007-2008 event, he led the championship in points with 11 and was rewarded with a tournament all-star selection. A year later, he was instrumental in a national team Bronze medal when his 6 assists led all others in the competition.

Paul Dixon talked about the club’s latest addition:

“When you bring in someone new, you try to get the word from other people about what kind of player he is. If you were picking one universal theme that you sort of extract from those inquiries, it is in relation to the level of talent he possesses. He is a gifted player, which is rather recognizable by the numbers he has posted throughout his career even going back to 200 points in the high level junior league from which he developed. Coventry have a real winning tradition here in the UK, and Greg was a big part of their last league title haul and their subsequent invitation to a significant European tournament. We too have a winning tradition and we need guys like Greg who can perform when winning is expected. He is still relatively young with a good chunk of his career in front of him so that is an extra bonus to acquiring a player of his ability. He joins some other finely skilled players on our side and he will be in a role that should give him every opportunity to have a real impact on our ultimate success. We look forward to Greg’s arrival and his contribution to our objectives.”
