The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.

A change in venue to Spectrum was the setting on Sunday as the Flames and Basingstoke Bison hooked up for game 2 of their tune up weekend. For the second consecutive evening, the home team came out on top with Surrey’s side edging the Bison 3-2 to give each team a win and a loss over the exhibition series. The Bison took the opener 24 hours earlier by a 3-1 margin.
In the 2nd game, Rob Lamey put the Flames out to a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute before a Sam Oakford goal just under a minute later evened the affair. Nathan Rempel broke the deadlock at 16:36 and then Martin Masa extended the lead to a pair at 18:04. Inside the final minute of the period, the Bison cut the lead in half when Ondrej Lauko scored to make it 3-2. The 1700+ people in attendance could be excused if they looked forward to two more periods of offensive hockey, but Dean Skinns in the Bison net and Miroslav Hala at the opposite end had more to say on the matter, each shutting the door for the final 40 minutes of play to leave the first period score as the final count.
Spectrum’s team opened the weekend in Hampshire after a summer of roster adjustments that included the arrival of 5 new faces in an effort to improve on last season’s cup winning lot. The Bison took a first period 2-1 lead and did not look back while converting it into a 3-1 win. Lukas Smital scored the first goal of the 2010-2011 schedule to give the travellers a 1 goal lead just past the midway point of the opening frame, but that would be the highlight of the Flames offensive show. A goal by Ondrej Lauko at 13:27 and another by Sam Oakford at 15:46 put the Herd out in front for good. With time winding down in the middle session, Steve Moria bagged a short handed marker to double his side’s lead before wiping out the clock the rest of the way.
Flames Head Coach Paul Dixon commented on an intense week of training finishing with a pair of games:
“The first week is always very demanding on the guys. We are on the ice twice a day from Monday through Friday so they are thrown right into an intense schedule that is very different from their off season fitness regimes. To make it that much more difficult it always happens at a time when they have just arrived in town and are also trying to quickly settle themselves and their families into a normal home routine. They all arrive in great physical condition, but no matter how you train, getting back to intense on ice sessions is always an adjustment and I am sure some of the guys will enjoy their day off before taking up the normal training schedule ahead Saturday’s league opener. As far as the games went, I thought it was a good showing this weekend by both teams. There was a good level of intensity on both sides and I think we did a lot of good things on both nights that give us a lot of promise for this season. A year ago we remember dropping both opening league games and were on the chase right from the start so we are hoping to avoid such pitfalls this coming weekend when Bracknell visits Spectrum before we make a trip to Sheffield. On paper we have a team that is fully capable of some real accomplishments and we are hopeful that we can step up and deliver results to match.”
