The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
The Guildford Flames ice hockey club’s 3rd longest serving player will not be with the side for the new term. Guildford Jr product Rob Lamey will ice elsewhere when the 2011-2012 season commences. The 5’11”, 190lb forward had 25 points in 21 league games this season, but was medically sidelined from November and did not return to the line up before the schedule closed.
With 541 Flames games under his belt, the 30 year old is 1 of just 3 club players to ever surpass the 500 mark. In that time, he posted 399 points including 159 goals and had 299 penalty minutes. His best offensive output in a Flames shirt occurred during the 2009-2010 season when he was named Captain. He registered 21 goals and 69 points as one of the team’s top 3 point providers during the Premier Cup winning season.
While still with the development outfit, Lamey iced in his first Flames game in 1996 and continued to play in local colours until November 2001. He then spent the bulk of a five year stretch away from Spectrum with Isle of Wight Raiders. He returned to his home grown roots for 2006-2007 when he helped the Flames to the club’s first Premier Cup win. He went on to star in the following season’s league title success and the return to Cup glory a couple of seasons later. Those trophies were in addition to 7 others he had already bagged with the club. During his original spell in Surrey he participated in a pair of treble winning seasons in 1997-98 and 2000-2001. He also rostered in the 1998 Benson & Hedges Plate win.
Prior to his full time jump to the senior ranks, Lamey was a top British junior international. He skated in the world junior championships for team GB in 1999 and 2000.
Paul Dixon chatted about yet another difficult move for the club:
“This choice is particularly meaningful when you consider the impact a guy has made to an organisation over a very long stretch of time when he has more than 500 games to his credit, and no shortage of offensive numbers to boot. Rob has been a valuable member for nearly every trophy this team has ever won. He has gone from being a young junior with a bit of an offensive flare to a fully developed player who can manage the situation in any area of the ice. In addition to his playing skills, he is a guy that everyone likes and he has become part of the fabric of our dressing room. Despite this decision, we know that he will be missed by everyone. Rob still has many years ahead of him at this point in his career. You never know what may happen beyond next season, but for the coming year at least we wish Rob well with a new club.”
