The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
A 66-36 shot advantage was not enough to get a Flames result during a visit to Swindon where Spectrum’s team tied the game at 4 with less than 5 minutes remaining but immediately gave up the game winning reply in addition to an empty netter as the Wildcats recorded a 6-4 win. The ‘Cats opened a 2 goal spread after 20 minutes. Sam Bullas put up the home side’s first at 12:14 and Michal Pinc added another in the 16th minute. Nathan Rempel cut the lead in half at 27:12 and Ben Campbell brought the clubs onto even terms less than a minute later, but Nicky Watt put Swindon in front again just beyond the midway point. Another Rempel strike in the 35th minute equalised, but it was quickly answered when Lee Richardson offered the Wildcats yet another lead ahead of the final break. At 55:31, as the Flames approached 23 shots in the frame, a David Savage goal looked to have at least secured a point for the travellers, but an Aaron Nell strike at 57:42 ruined those ambitions. With Mark Lee on the Flames bench in favour of an extra skater, Jonas Hoog iced the result for his team when he scored on the gaping cage inside the final minute.
Paul Dixon was disappointed with the result but not with his team:
“Losing is losing and nobody likes it, but you have to be fair when you have to be fair and as disappointing as we were with the final score, we can look at that game and be pleased with the way we actually played. After losing a couple prior to that where our effort was a little suspect, we came out hard against Swindon and the guys really pushed for a win. Frankly, it was one of our better games in the last 4 or 5 including some of the ones we won. We believed even late that we could still win and we never gave up at any point no matter what the score was. We dominated the game from start to finish, territorially and on the shot clock, so it was a night where we deserved to be the winning club. Sometimes it doesn’t work out the way it should and you just have to chalk it up to a bit of bad luck and look ahead to the next time out. The latest results have shrunk our lead significantly at the top of the table, but we have a big weekend ahead against our nearest challengers, Milton Keynes and Slough Jets. It is an opportunity to immediately gain back some ground and we will have a tough week of training to try and be ready for a couple of key match ups.”
