Milos Melicherik

The head coach of the league champion under 18 side will return to the Guildford Flames line up this coming season when he resumes his 3 role duty with the organisation as Jr. Coach, Flames assistant coach and player.  The senior side’s 2nd top point collector of all time played 27 games, scoring 12 goals and 41 points to bring his career Spectrum numbers to 195 goals and 424 assists; a 619 point total that makes him only the team’s 3rd player ever to cross the 600 point marker. The 36 year old was instrumental in the long awaited playoff capture this past spring, posting 4 goals and 8 points in the post season championship run after leading the club in playoff scoring a year prior when only a penalty shot in overtime of the playoff final prevented the trophy’s trip back to Guildford.  The former Slovakian Jr international arrived at the club in 2003 when he led the side to the playoff title and then proceeded to top the club’s scoring list in 6 consecutive terms.  In addition to a pair of playoff titles, the 5’11”, 180lb star has helped the club to a couple of English Premier League championships and an equal number of Premier Cups.

After a development career that included caps with the Slovakian World Jr. international squad in 1994, he iced the first 6 years of his full time pro career in Slovakia with Dukla Trencin.  He recorded his best offensive Extraleague season during the 1999-2000 set when he had 19 goals and 46 points.  The next year he made his first move by joining Havirov Panthers in the Czech Extraleague.  He spent the following season in Germany which preceded a final session back with Trencin ahead of his UK arrival.

Paul Dixon talked about the contribution that Melicherik makes around the organisation:

“Milos is an outstanding talent in our line-up, which is a statement that is now somewhat akin to suggesting the sky is blue or that water is wet.   Over the years, he has proven himself on the ice time and time again in many different ways.  Perhaps even more inspiring than that, he has wasted little time taking that same success to his other responsibilities.  He took his under 18 team to new levels and helped them secure a league title in addition to really establishing himself as a very valuable and respected member of the senior coaching staff.  In case he didn’t already have enough to do, he has now also taken on a leadership position in our ‘Drug Freeze’ and ‘Road Safety’ school visit programmes which are the largest part of our community initiatives.  He is doing all that and still producing the goods when called upon to pull on a shirt on game night.  Milos is a winner.  He lives and breathes ice hockey.  Everything he does, he does for the good of the team and we are lucky to have him here making such an incalculable impact on our success.”
