The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.

With just a single game on the agenda for the weekend, the Guildford Flames were hoping to ensure a 2 point night on home ice. Captain David Longstaff helped his side accomplish that objective by scoring pair of goals, including the game winner, during a 4-2 win over the Peterborough Phantoms. The first period wound down into the final stages before Spectrum’s team nosed out into the lead. A David Savage one timer from the blue line on a 17th minute powerplay was re-directed in front by Longstaff for the only goal of the period. The Phantoms replied just 15 seconds into the middle set with a Darius Lelenas strike to even the event. The crowd favourites took the lead again a few minutes beyond the game’s midway point on another powerplay. Jez Lundin slid a perfect feed to Paul Dixon whose one time blast beat Stephen Wall for a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes. Just 13 seconds into the 3rd, Longstaff picked an opposing defenceman’s pocket in front of the Phantoms goal before eluding Wall with the eventual winner. Stuart Potts extended the lead in the 47th minute before the Phantoms closed out the scoring 44 seconds from time thanks to a Maris Ziedins powerplay marker.
Flames Head Coach Paul Dixon looked back on the only game of the weekend:
“When you only have a single game it is very important to do well not only in terms of the table standings but just in feeling confident for the subsequent week of training. With 2 games you know that you are going to get an immediate ‘second chance’ if things don’t go your way, but with 1 game, a poor outing means you are stuck with that until at least a week later which can sometimes be a very mentally draining, frustrating occurrence. One thing we did better against Peterborough was at least be a bit on the offensive from the opening faceoff. We struggled with that on a couple of the games prior to that so it was good to be able to create some good opportunities in the first and actually jump out to a lead with a powerplay goal rather than open the game from behind. Peterborough played a good defensive game making sure all 5 guys were back most of the time. When a team plays that strategy it can be like playing against 5 defenceman all at once so scoring in those situations isn’t always easy. We were patient and played our way through a few struggles in the 2nd period to then take the game back in the 3rd and do what needed to be done to get the win.”
