The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Six different goal scorers headlined the offensive act as the Flames bagged 4 3rd period strikes to blow open a 2-1 game that finished as a 6-2 win over the Phantoms in Peterborough on Wednesday night. Rick Plant had the only goal of the opening period when he put the Flames in front at 8.25. Inside the last half of the middle stanza the Phantoms tied it on a goal by former Flame Joe Graham. The knotted score looked like it might hold up into the break, but Branislav Kvetan made sure that didn’t happen when he nudged Spectrum’s team in front again just 33 seconds from period time. The visitors broke the game open early in the 3rd when Nathan Rempel converted a powerplay at 44:06 to extend the lead to a pair before a Jozef Kohut marker seconds later widened the gap further. Stuart Potts made it a 4 goal cushion in the 48th minute, but a Phantoms powerplay goal through Ondrej Lauko shortly thereafter pulled their deficit back to 3. Phantoms hope of an extended reply was short-lived thanks to a Matt Towe goal, the final strike of the night, at 51:20, that re-stored the 4 goal spread that closed out the game.
Flames Head Coach Paul Dixon was relieved to win in a building that has often been trouble for his side:
“People often look at the standings and think you are just going to turn up, pull the shirt on, and automatically get points against a team who is much lower in the table. There are no easy nights under any circumstances but a trip to Peterborough particularly is never, ever an easy venture and is always a game for which you need to be ready to play. It is a much smaller ice surface and they often play a game that is really suited to that. They already thumped us once in their building this year so we went in there with a real focus on what we had to do to get the points and credit to the guys for doing just that. We worked hard all night and we did not lose faith when the scoring was tough in the middle part of the game. We kept on task and finally got some to go in during the 3rd to get a good lead and then hang on to it for an important result. It is a short turn around before they visit us on Saturday so we need a good couple of training sessions and look to come out and aggressively go after that game against a team who will surely want to offer a bit of payback.”
