The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Wednesday evening could be the turning point of the season after a confident team performance as the Flyers came out 4-3 winners against west coast rivals, Braehead Clan. Fife Flyers captain Danny Stewart was confident the team could follow the win up with another, when his former team Coventry Blaze visit Fife Ice Arena on Saturday in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
“The mood has been great lately! I think the departure of a few players has brought the current group closer together, and now with the additions of Kadic and Bakrlik we have more depth, and I think you can see the confidence in our displays. We have been in every game for the last few weeks and hopefully Wednesday night is the start of us being on the winning side more often than not.”
Wednesday night saw new boys Denis Kadic and Frantisek Bakrlik get their first goals for the club but Bakrlik’s goal was washed out by referee Moray Hanson who, along with his linesman, had judged the net to be off its mooring.
“A couple of Clan players, including their goalie, complained that the net had been off. The linesman confirmed it with the ref and the call was made. It looked good from where we were but of course we were pretty far away. These things happen in games but we stuck with it and played great the rest of the way.”
Stewart also praised the Flyers fans that turned out, with close to 200 fans making the Wednesday night trip to Braehead. “Our fans have been fantastic all year, and especially in the last few weeks. Having them there on the road definitely gives us an extra boost, and they always play a part in our success.”
The attention now turns to the home game on Saturday with Coventry Blaze returning for the 3rd visit to Fife Ice Arena, but this time there will be a bigger pressure as the Sky Sports cameras will be there. Coventry Blaze have lost 5 of their last 8 games but have a 100% record in Fife.
“I think it is definitely a game we can take something from. Not taking anything away from Coventry but it is a tough road trip up here to Kirkcaldy, and with us playing better of late I believe we have to have that confidence at home that we can win games.”
Stewart is also expecting another bumper crowd, with Flyers having played in front of consistently large crowds at home since the festive season. “With another expected huge crowd to rally us on, I believe we have what it takes to get the win and if we put in a performance like we put in at Braehead we really give ourselves a chance to do that!”
Face-off on Saturday takes place at 7:15pm with doors to the rink opening at 6:15pm.
