Foster happy with weekend efforts
Joint head coach Stephen Foster today looked back at the Northern League Weekend and said the team should be proud of their efforts. The TDC Waste Management Northern Stars we’re beaten 2-1 by the Blackburn Hawks in the semi-finals, but despite this the former Durham Wasps netminder believes it’s made other teams stand-up and take notice.
“We were please with the performances at the weekend” said Foster. “The tournament showed we can play against the best, we won all our games on the Saturday with the highlight being a 3-1 win against a strong Fife Flyers team. Over the whole weekend we played some good hockey and I think we may have surprised some teams along the way”.
Foster also confirmed that both he and joint head coach Ivor Bennett had been delighted with the team’s progress over the past five weeks.
“The team have really developed since starting pre-season training” Foster commented. “We’re a young team and for a lot of the younger players it’s their first season at this level so getting them in the right shape physically and mentally has been important. We’ve got some very exciting prospects in the team and if they continue to develop the way they have been we can only get better and stronger”.
The TDC Stars welcome the Nottingham (Saturday at 6.30pm) and Solway Sharks (Sunday at 5.30pm) to the Metro Radio Arena this weekend. Tickets are available on the door priced at £5.00 for adults with under 16’s receiving free admittance.
