Foster looking to overcome Warriors experience
TDC Waste Management Northern Stars joint head coach Stephen Foster is looking to overcome an experienced Whitley Warriors tonight. The current ENL Division 1 champions visit the Metro Radio Arena (7.30pm face-off) as Tyneside derbies return after a one season break.
“Whitley come here as champions and boast experience throughout their team” said Foster. “They’ve been one of the top teams in the league for a number of years now, any team that has the likes of Simon Leach and Paul Windridge will not only be up there but have the experience to compete season after season. They’ve also added Andy Thornton who alongside his brother Richie has Elite League experience.
“It’s the first derby of the season and all the lads are really looking forward to showing why we belong in this division and to hopefully pick up our first points of the season”.
Looking at the weekend’s back to back defeats against Nottingham and Solway, Foster remains confident regarding the season ahead.
“We we’re obviously disappointed not to pick up any points” said the former Durham Wasps netminder. “On the positive we showed we can compete against the top sides. On Sunday we really deserved at least a point and at 4-3 with five minutes to go in the game. The one thing that we learned over the weekend is that we cannot afford to make mistakes at this level”.
A larger than normal crowd is expected tonight with tickets available on the side door of the Arena priced at £5.00 for adults with under 16’s entitled to free admittance.
