Giants go six points clear
Giants moved 6 points clear at the top of the league standings with this win over Flyers in a game dominated by powerplay opportunities and powerplay goals, with no fewer than 7 of the 9 goals scored on the night being with the extra man.
Giants back on track following a couple of losses last weekend while for Flyers they still seek that first league win as their record goes to 0 and 12.
The hosts were quickly on the board when Jon Pelle netted after only 3.33 on the powerplay but also with a numerical advantage Flyers tied it at 7.01 with a strike by Steven McAlpine.
The 2nd period saw Giants take control, scoring 3 times without reply. George Awada was on the mark at 22.37 on the powerplay, Benoit Doucet made it 3-1 at 31.16 and shortly after another powerplay effort by Tom Dignard extended the advantage further.
When Darryl Lloyd made it 5-1 at 42.09 it was all over but Flyers never gave up and were rewarded when Mike Hamilton slotted home on the powerplay at 46.53. Yet another powerplay counter by Matt Cohen at 50.49 brought the Scots side to within a couple of goals but any hopes were dashed at 55.31 when Doucet rounded off the scoring with a 4th powerplay strike of the night for Doug Christiansen’s men.
