The race is on… That’s the message that is coming from the LBM Belfast Giants this week as the race for the Elite League title begins to heat up. The Giants go into the stretch in third place, four points behind, Coventry and Nottingham.

This weekend, the Giants come up against the same opponent on two occasions, the Edinburgh Capitals. The first of those match-ups is on Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena,Belfast, face-off 7pm.

The Capitals are in the bottom three of the league, however with their games in hand they could easily climb their way into the top half. Coach Christiansen has been producing some encouraging results for the Capitals and the proof of the pudding was on Tuesday night when the Capitals defeated the high-flying Coventry Blaze 5-3 thanks to goals from O’Connor, Lambert and Horne, all names for the Giants to watch out for this weekend. After the five meetings between the two sides so far this season, the Giants have a 100% record, winning all five and scoring 30 goals in the process.

LBM Belfast Giants defenceman, Mike Jacobsen had this to say on this weekend’s opponents, “Edinburgh are deserving of a much higher place in the league table than where they are right now. You are only as good as your last game and last time out, Edinburgh won 5-3 against Coventry so we will have to be ready for Saturday night. The Capitals are a good hockey team and as some of the top sides have found out recently, they will take advantage of any mistakes and so we will have to be on top of our game come Saturday night.”
