Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the signing of 28 year old American born defenseman Jeff Mason for the 2010 /11 season. Mason, from Easthampton, Massachusetts has an impressive point scoring record, scoring over 40 points in two seasons in the ECHL in 06/07 and more recently for the Gwinnett Gladiators in 2008/09. Last season, Mason moved mid season from the Kalamazoo Wings (ECHL), where he amassed 21 points (7 goals, 14 assists) in 36 games, to Europe for the first time where he played for the Heilbronn Falcons in the German 2nd division.

Head Coach Doug Christiansen is delighted to have signed Mason: “Jeff brings a lot to our team. First of all, we needed an offensive defender, especially someone who skates well and can jump in the play. Any defender in the ECHL who score 40 or more points twice and was on pace to do it a third time is a player who will succeed in our league. What I also like about Jeff are his intangibles. He was captain of his team in Gwinnett. Jeff is another player coming to Belfast who has worn a letter as a professional before. I think leadership is especially important with our demanding road schedule. It is our leaders who will be pushing the team on the ice and driving them forward.”

Jeff Mason added, “I am very excited for the opportunity to come to Belfast and play for the Giants. It is truly one of the top organizations and has a great tradition of winning. I am looking forward to getting started and helping the Giants to win another championship this season.”

GM Todd Kelman added “Signing Jeff is another important step for us in building our team. He is a great skater, who moves the puck well and can run a power play. His ability to score points from defense gives us the added depth we have been looking for”.
