The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.

The Invicta Dynamos are pleased to announce the return of long-time servant of the club and popular utility man Grant Baxter ahead of the 2011/12 campaign after the seasoned skater agreed a switch back to Kent from the Romford Raiders. Baxter, who was ever present in Medway from 2003, now makes a much anticipated return to the Silver Blades Ice Rink, Gillingham and takes the team roster to 18 with just over a fortnight to go until the first puck drop in September.
Grant Baxter first appeared for the Dynamos in 1998/99 but his presence in Kent became more permanent from 2003 with the utility man then going on to spend seven consecutive years lacing up his skates for the club. In 275 outings for the team he notched 34 goals and played a hand in 91 more to tally 125 points. Meanwhile Baxter’s robust approach and willingness to defend his teammates also saw him amass a total of 958 minutes of penalties. Now, back with the side he captained between 2007 and 2009, the skater is likely to add to both tallies following a year in Essex with Romford where he featured 30 times, netted once and claimed five assists.
Speaking on the return of the popular Grant Baxter Head Coach Kevin Parrish revealed he was happy to have the veteran back amongst his ranks and thought that both his experience and passion would be key throughout the upcoming campaign. Parrish said, “I’m delighted to have Grant back where he belongs and I have no doubt our supporters feel exactly the same. He has more appearances for the Dynamos than all but five players and so knows exactly what we’re all about and he will work tirelessly to get this side to where we want to be”. Parrish then added what he anticipated from his returnee this term when he commented, “It’s fair to say we all know what to expect from Grant and his presence could prove invaluable over the new season. On the ice he will hit everything, chase everything and challenge anyone, whilst off the ice he is a great character to have around, he shows passion for the team and he will drive to get the best out of others. Maybe at times last season we were lacking someone like Grant and so I’m pleased to have him back with us for the course of 2011/12”.
Latest recruit Grant Baxter, who can play in defence or as a forward, is the 16th British player to make the roster ahead of the new season, alongside Canadians Justin Noble and Ryan Ellis, and will join up with his new teammates as the team return to training this week. Meanwhile the club still hope to secure the services of a second netminder before the first fixture against the Bracknell Hornets in Berkshire for the curtain raiser in early September.
