Gratton makes Schafer his first signing

Defenceman Evan Schafer is the first signing for Edinburgh Capitals coach Brad Gratton. Evan Schafer is 6'2", weighs 225 lbs and was a 4th round pick, 105 overall, in the NHL entry draft to Florida Panthers in 2004. He has spent the last four seasons playing for University of Saskatchewan in the CWUAA.

Evan Schafer said, "I am looking forward to continuing my career in Edinburgh. I am excited to come to the city and play for the Capitals and look forward to a successful season. I am excited to come to the Elite League and compete for a championship with the Edinburgh Capitals."

Brad Gratton commented, "Evan is a player every team is looking for and needs. He is a defenceman who is good in our end and is very physical, he plays the body all the time and will be a player we need in key situations in our end and when the game is close.

"Evan is a good skater, is a leader with a great work ethic and attitude, the kind of player we want in Edinburgh. For the University of Saskatchewan team he has been an assistant captain. He will be a player that the opposition will hate playing against. Evan is in great shape, logs a lot of ice time and will play against other teams top lines. We will also look for him to play a major roll on our penalty kill.

"I've researched, talked to and interviewed this kid and everything that has come back to me is very positive and one big thing is he wants to be here and do a good job for us."
