Griffin happy to be back

British defenceman James Griffin says it is good to be back after recently returning to the CPP Coventry Blaze line-up.
The 18-year-old, in his first full season at the Skydome, was sidelined for more than a month after returning from Great Britain Under-20’s World Championship campaign in Germany with concussion.
But he was back in the team for the 6-2 home win over Braehead Clan on January 22 and scored his first senior goal in Saturday’s 6-1 loss at Nottingham Panthers.
Griffin was then named man of the match as Blaze went down by the same scoreline to Panthers at the Skydome on Sunday.
He said: “It was really frustrating having to watch the team, the concussion was a pretty bad one. But I felt I had a good weekend and it felt good to be back. To score was just a bonus, that is not really my role.
“Matty Soderstrom [assistant coach] was joking that I would be like James Pease and not score for 10 years so I was happy with the goal! I actually had a really good chance before that. I was one-on-one with the goalie but he made the save.”
Griffin has earned rave reviews from coach Paul Thompson this season and the youngster is happy with his progress.
He added: “It is going really well this year and I want to stay in the Elite League. I feel I can play at this level. I just want to keep working hard and minimise my mistakes.”
