Hemingway reunites with Christiansen

The Belfast Giants are pleased to announce the signing of former NHL forward, Colin Hemingway, for the forthcoming season. The 29 year old Canadian forward last played in the Elite League in the 2007-08 season for the Edinburgh Capitals, skating alongside Giants coach Doug Christiansen.

Since then Colin has been playing in the ECHL, most recently splitting his season between the Alaska Aces and Stockton Thunder, amassing a total of 61 points from 24 goals and 37 assists over the 09/10 regular season.

Hemingway was a draft pick for the St Louis Blues in 1999.

Doug Christiansen is delighted to have added Hemingway to the Giants roster, “Colin is a game changer. Having coached Colin before, I know exactly what we are getting. His resume speaks for itself: two-time All-American, Hobey Baker finalist, NHL games played, nominated for EIHL Newcomer of the year and awarded ECHL All-Star in 2009. The fans in Belfast will love him. He is a true competitor. He has fought Brad Voth, scored big goals, and is willing to pay the price by blocking shots and taking hits. When I was appointed Coach in Belfast, I knew straight away that I wanted Colin on our team. There is no doubt in my mind, the Giants have just signed one of the best players in the league.”

GM Todd Kelman added “3 years ago Colin Hemingway was the best player in this league and I am excited that we have brought him to Belfast. He will be a dominant force in the league next season and a superstar with our fans.”

Speaking from British Columbia, Hemingway said “I am delighted to be returning to the Elite League and am especially excited to come to Belfast. I am looking for big things out of the team Doug is putting together. The Giants consistently compete for the top spot in the League and hopefully this will be the year we can bring the title home for the fans.”
