Forward Dean Holland today spoke of his surprise at the Newcastle Vipers 11-4 win over the Dundee Stars on Tuesday night. Dundee were visitors to Whitley Bay Ice Rink in Challenge Cup action and the win catapulted the Vipers into second place in Group A leaving Danny Stewart’s outfit with the chance of qualifying for the competitions semi-finals.
22-year-old Holland started the season with the Stars on a two way contract with the EPL’s Manchester Phoenix, with the Newcastle born forward looking forward to the visit of the Braehead Clan on Saturday (7.30pm face-off).
“I was very surprised at the outcome of Tuesday’s game” said Holland. “Even though they had their back-up in from the start, I didn’t think we would have got such a big lead so early. Even though Dundee couldn’t qualify for the semi-finals, I still think Dan Ceman (Dundee Stars player-coach) will have been very disappointed with the scoreline.
“The important thing for us is we got the win, we came out and played hard from the start and carried on with the work ethic that we’ve shown all season. The results over the last few games have given the team a huge boost.
“The Braehead game will be tough, they have a lot of skilled guys but if we can keep to our systems and carry on with the same work ethic and commitment there is no reason at all for us not being able to take two points.
“Personally I’d also like to thank all of our supporters that have came along whatever the weather. The atmosphere at Whitley Bay against Coventry last Sunday was superb and hopefully that will continue on Saturday.”
Tickets for the visit of the Braehead Clan to Whitley Bay Ice Rink on Saturday (7.30pm) are available now via vipershockey.co.uk/shop or by calling 0191 477 4100 priced at £12.50 for adults, £9.50 for concessions, £5.50 for under 16’s and £32.00 for a family (2 adults & 2 under 16’s).
