Huge win for Panthers in Belfast
A super controlled display saw the GMB Nottingham Panthers take the points in regulation with a 2-3 win at top of the table Belfast on Saturday night. With maximum effort from everyone, especially on the penalty kill, and with Craig Kowalski showing why he is the league's number one goalie, Panthers deserved the win. Guy Lepine's 66 second blast was tipped home by Sami Ryhanen and although Giants sneaked an equaliser through just past three minutes K-wall was otherwise near as foot-perfect. David Clarke was set up by Corey Neilson for a signature powerplay strike late in the period and Nottingham were never headed. Danny Meyers followed up on David Beauregard's too hot to handle shot late in the second and he jammed home from inside the blue paint and although a third period powerplay tip upstairs drew Giants to within a goal, the Panthers held their nerve and kept control of the game. Elsewhere on Saturday, Coventry lost at Fife in a shoot-out (3-2), Braehead lost at home to Cardiff (2-3), Hull lost at home to Dundee (2-5) while on Friday Belfast had beaten Edinburgh (6-2). The Panthers fly home from Belfast on Sunday to face the Fife Flyers AT 5PM. Good seats still available.
