Islanders secure four signings

The Peterborough Islanders are delighted to welcome back four key members of their squad for the coming season. Forwards Dale Jowett, Dan Needham, Stu Dane and defenceman Jon Tiernan all return for the 2010/2011 campaign.

Team Coach Richard Wheatley was pleased the Islanders were able to bring the quartet back for another year: “It’s good that we have managed to secure the main core of the team from last year. There’s a great deal of potential in this team”

The ‘in your face’, hard skating styles of both Jowett and Needham are sure to be key to the teams success this season as the club looks to bounce back from last seasons disappointment.

“Dale showed glimpses of what he is capable of last season. We’re hoping to get the best out of him this year. Bringing Dan back is also a big plus for us and we’ll be looking for him to pick up where he left off last season” said Wheatley

Hockey fans all over Peterborough will be familiar with Stu Dane. A product of the Peterborough junior development system - only player Coach Ross Mackintosh has represented the Islanders more times than Dane, who has worn his favoured #98 shirt 184 times for the city side. Coach Wheatley was keen to re-enforce the role Dane plays on the team “Everyone connected with this club knows what an important role Stu plays with this club both on the ice and off it and it’s great to see him back for another season”

Big defenceman Tiernan is in his second season with the Islanders, following a strong rookie campaign with the side in which he picked up the ‘Most Improved Player’ award at the teams end of season presentation. The hard work Jon has put in over the summer has not gone unnoticed by Wheatley and player coach Ross Mackintosh and he is sure to play an important role for the team this coming season.

The Islanders kick off their 2010/2011 league campaign at home on Saturday September 11th (face-off 6.30pm) when they welcome Romford Fury to the Bretton Arena. The city side then travel to the Isle of Wight the following night to take on Vectis Tigers.
