The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
On Wednesday night the Swindon Wildcats faced their first loss in three games when they faced last year's playoff champions the Slough Jets. The 'Cats opened the game perfectly when the Estonian Toivo Suursoo tucked away the first goal, following some great play from fellow import Josef Liska and player/coach Ryan Aldridge. Minutes later and the travelling then equalised through Michael Bowman, after the puck trickled over the goal line to surprise of all on the ice. The rest of the period saw both netminders tested however at 19:34, Slough then grabbed the next goal when Blaz Emersic was able to tap away a great pass coming forward from the wing. Neither team let up in the final twenty minutes as the crowd saw some good hockey between both sides and with half the period gone, the next goal was seen. Some pressure on the Slough net led to Aldridge picking up the puck and with a convicted pass, the Slovenian Josef Liska on timed the puck past Jets' Greg Rockman. The play picked up physically from here and both gave the body as good as each other as they battled for that next goal. In the fifty seventh minute that next goal did arrive and in the favour of home side. A top individual effort through ex-Slough player Ryan Watt saw him break between two defenseman before slotting the puck home with an accurate wrist shot. From here it was game on and Swindon had a lot to play for with only minutes to go. They were able to get several more shot on goal before pulling netminder James Hadfield and looking for that extra player advantage. Despite coming very close numerous times, the Wildcats just could not find that vital goal and the final buzzer confirmed a 4-3 loss to last year's EPL playoff champions. A solid Slough performance made it hard to find shots on net and although being an import down, the Swindon Wildcats came so close to taking their game streak to three without defeat. The Wildcats next face back to back games away this weekend, where they will meet Slough once more before travelling to the Peterborough Phantoms on Sunday. Some interesting fixtures where points are very much possible come the end of the weekend's games.
This closed out the period and led to an interesting second, where two more goals looked to change the game. Four minutes into the period and Jets' Dan Davies was able to finish a good give and go play with a backhand, before Darius Pliskauskas then made it four after his backhand found the top corner following his circling of the net. A tough score line to come back from made for a hard final period but one which seemed to pay for the admission alone.
