Slough Jets team owners Ghislaine and Zoran Kozic are delighted to announce the return to the Jets of Gary Stefan who will be providing consultancy to the Management team.

Gary Stefan came to the United Kingdom in 1980 and immediately made a name for himself with a successful spell at the Richmond Flyers before moving to the Steatham Redskins. In 1986 Gary was lured to Slough to start up an ice hockey team in the soon to be opened Slough Ice Arena which he also managed until 2000.

Stefan founded the Slough Jets who started competing in 1986, with Gary himself managing the team as well as playing until his retirement in 1999. He scored the club’s first ever goal in the first fixture at Oxford and then went on to score the first goal at home too a week later. In his illustrious playing career Gary posted stats which to this day see him leading the all-time Jets records in Goals, assists and points with over 1000 points scored. Stefan also represented Great Britain at the 1990, 1991 and 1992 World Championships. He retired in 1999, as part of a league winning team, his #17 shirt was retired and a year later was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000.

After retiring from playing Gary continued to be involved in the sport as he joined the British National League in 2000 as General Manager and sat on the board of Directors of the country’s governing body, Ice Hockey UK. Gary then left ice hockey to focus on his business interests and ran a successful sports good store in Burnham.

Gary continues to live in the Slough area and is delighted to be bringing his considerable ice hockey and business experience back to the club he founded. Working alongside Ghislaine and Director of Operations, Steve English, Gary will be looking to build on the solid foundations that are currently in place to grow the club both on and off the ice.

On his return to the Jets Gary commented; “It’s great to be back and I think the break I had from the game has given me an opportunity to look from the outside in and provide a fresh perspective on the game that will help the Jets’ owners and management move the team forward and secure a solid foundation for years to come”.

In relation to the sport in the current climate, Stefan is realistic and states “Businesses of any kinds still face a very hard financially uncertain future and the business of Ice Hockey is no exception. However I am confident that the commitment and focus of the owners and management to ensuring a secure and successful future at the Jets will mean that our Fans will continue to be able to support one of the best run and successful teams in the country".

Ghislaine and the Management team are keen for the fan base to know that they remain committed to the Jets and are looking for the loyal fans to support them in future decisions made and to know that they wish to listen to any suggestions which may help not only Gary but the club move forward.

Director of Operations Steve English commented; “I’m pleased to have Gary back on board with the Jets. He has a proven ice hockey and business pedigree.
