Kieras departs Bison
The Basingstoke Bison Ice Hockey Club are, unfortunately, having to announce the departure of Mindaugas Kieras from the club.
The Lithuania international has enjoyed two seasons with the Herd - having joined the Stampede at the start of our EPL campaign.
The hard-shooting defenceman scored 110 points during his time in Basingstoke - including 28 goals - many with his trade-mark slapshot from the blue line.
Mindy joined the Bison from Energijia Elekrenal of the Lativan league, having previously spent time in the United Kingdom with the Edinburgh Capitals, Solihull Barons and Milton Keynes Lightning.
The 30-year old has also continued to represent his country. In fact, for every season that Kieras has been a player, he has represented his country at senior level - stretching back to his first appearance in 1999.
Kieras scored two goals in their latest World Championship campaign, including the GWG in their final match that secured division one status for Lithuania.
Director of Hockey Steve Moria gave his reflection to Mindy's departure.
“It is disappointing that Mindy has chosen to leave the Bison for another Club. He had orginally agreed to come back for a third season but during the World Championships he decided that he was going to another team.
“I would like to thank Mindy for his contribution to Basingstoke. He is a model professional who competes hard in every game and in every training session.”
On behalf of all the supporters, staff and fellow players in the Bison side, we wish Mindy all the best for the future and thank him for his contribution to Basingstoke Ice Hockey.
