Leader Macrae joins Devils

The Cardiff Devils are delighted to announce the signing of Stuart Macrae for the 2010/11 season, his first in the UK.

Following the announcement of Jon Pelle earlier this week, Gerad Adams adds to his squad by signing a player with a proven track record of both scoring and championship success.

The Coxheath, Nova Scotia native has led his team in scoring four times in his career and has tasted success at college and international level.

Macrae brings his experience, six feet two inch frame and consistency to the line-up. He also brings a recommendation from a Devils favourite: Wes Jarvis.

Bench Coach Neil Francis, working alongside Adams in the recruitment process this summer, says:

“Stuart was recommended by Wes Jarvis who spoke very highly of his great all round game. He is described as a smooth playmaker with the added ability of being able to consistently put the puck in the net. He has strong leadership qualities and was a captain at St Francis-Xavier University.

This guy was part of the Canadian College National Championship winning team (as top scorer) as well as the gold-medal winning Team Canada side in the World University Championships. “

This continues Devils recruitment style of good players and good people for the coming year as Adams places great emphasis on leadership, consistency and positive attitude.

He says, “We are really pleased to add a player like Stuart who will give our roster a much greater depth and flexibility. This is another piece of the jigsaw that aims to give us scoring across all three lines.

Stuart comes with a fantastic scoring record throughout his career and spent the last 2 years in Amarillo in the Central Hockey League finishing each year as the team’s top scorer. Stuart will follow Wes Jarvis in combining his playing time with studying in Cardiff Business School thanks to the enhanced support given for the coming season.

As one of the highest ranking Schools in the Country (only Cambridge and two London Schools outplace them) this enables us to boast of the quality of education our scholastic players will receive whilst joining a competitive hockey team.”

Devils have now signed netminder Stevie Lyle, defencemen Mark Richardson and Gerad Adams and forwards Phil Hill, Ryan Finnerty, Max Birbraer, Jon Pelle and now Macrae.

Adams has more targets and the Devils will announce more players prior to the early-bird discount running out on May 31st. On the subject of further signings, Adams says:

“We are in advanced negotiations with several other players old and new, and hope to have some more announcements shortly.”
