Legend Ruggles back with the Warriors
He's one of the biggest characters in British Ice Hockey, and Legends Ice Hockey are delighted to announce the fans' favourite Hilton Ruggles will be here on May 6th as a Whitley Warrior. In his first of four seasons with Whitley, the Canadian left-winger racked-up 104 goals and 103 assists helping Warriors reach the Heineken Championships semi-final at Wembley in 1992 and establishing him as a firm-favourite with the Hillheads faithful. Ruggles came to Britain in August 1988, after spells in Austria, Germany, Italy and France. During his 19 seasons in the UK he scored over 1,000 goals for eight clubs, including Cardiff, Manchester, Coventry and Newcastle as well as, of course, Whitley Warriors. Hilton's last appearance in maroon and gold was in 2009 when the ENL Warriors took on a Whitley legends select in celebration of Ruggles’ induction to the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame, and May's Derby Day encounter will be his second Warriors v Wasps Legends game, icing in 2008's game for the Wasps' 60th anniversary. We look forward to welcoming Hilton back to the North East once again, and no-doubt the Warriors fans will be hoping the big man himself will help the Warriors exact revenge on their Wearside counterparts for the Warriors defeat by Durham three years ago. The Wasps v Warriors Legends game is on Sunday 6th May at Whitley Bay Ice Rink, face off 5.00pm. Tickets are available now from www.legendsicehockey.co.uk/tickets.html priced at £10.00 for adults and £5.00 for concessions (under 16’s, disabled, OAP and students). All our events will support grass roots ice hockey and local charities, along with the Ice Hockey Players Benevolent Fund.
