Lomanno out and Kudrna in for injured Kaufmann
Dundee CCS Stars have signed experienced goalie Ladislav Kudrna following a groin injury to starting goalie Jerad Kaufmann.
Czech Republican Kudrna, who is 33, first played in the UK for the Edinburgh Capitals in the British National League but he is no stranger to Elite league hockey having since played for Nottingham Panthers, London Racers and more recently with Newcastle Vipers and Hull Stingrays.
Ladislav arrives in Dundee today and will train with the team today and tomorrow before travelling to Braehead Arena on Friday evening for the Stars second game of the season against their Scottish rivals, the Braehead Clan.
Stars' coach Dan Ceman explained, "We don't know how long Jerad will be out and we need two healthy goalies as we've a tough schedule coming up. Mark has played really well but he is still learning his trade and it would be wrong to expect him to play game-in and game-out. Ladislav was one of a number of players we considered but he has experience of playing here in Britain. I saw him play for London Racers and I felt he was the best goaltender in the league then. We also considered two others but they are in North America and that takes time. Ladislav was available immediately."
Canadian/Italian defenseman Luciano Lomanno has been released from his contract with immediate effect.
Ceman said, "We were looking to freshen up the team and Luciano has another job in Canada. It doesn't mean that I'll be looking for another defenseman. I'll look around the market and pick the best player available to us."
Stars next home game is against the Nottingham Panthers on Sunday 24 October. Face off is at 18:30 and Dundee Ice Arena doors open at 17:30.
