Longmuir hails Bruins coup
Newcastle Vipers General Manager Jaimie Longmuir today hailed the Belfast Giants following the announcement that the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins will play a preseason exhibition at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday 2nd October.
The Bruins will play one exhibition game in Belfast against a Belfast Giants Select, a team comprising of an All-Star selection of the best of the Elite League players from each team.
The Boston Bruins are one of the most storied hockey teams in the NHL. They are one of the “Original Six” Teams, officially forming back in 1924. They have won five Stanley Cups in their team history, and last season, the Bruins made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, eventually bowing out to the Philadelphia Flyers in the final match of their seven game series.
“This is a huge coup for the Belfast Giants and the Elite League as a whole” confirmed Longmuir. “The league as a whole are delighted to be welcoming the Bruins organisation to the UK and the opportunity to showcase ourselves against an original six team from the best league in the world.
“I’d like to congratulate the Giants organisation and General Manager Todd Kelman on being able to finalise this prestigious event and I am sure we’ll be seeing a number of Vipers fans attending the game in Belfast.”
Tickets details are still to be confirmed, however it is expected upon release they will be in high demand.
