Another two Giants, a Nottingham Panther and a Coventry Blaze are the latest players to be named to the All-Star team who will be facing off against the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL) in October at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

The first goaltender selected is the Giants own Stephen Murphy, who won British Player of the Year honors in 2009-10 and was voted team MVP for the Belfast Giants.  Murphy led the Giants to the Playoff Championship last season and has continued his great form this season so far.

Belfast Giants coach Doug Christiansen commented, “Murph has been fantastic for us. He is extremely athletic and will be ready for the Bruins shooters. Whoever is in net for us against the Bruins is going to have a busy night. I am looking forward to seeing our man against the best in the world!”

The Selects also added left wing Owen Fussey from the Coventry Blaze. Fussey has played in the NHL for the Washington Capitals and is a player who combines grit and speed. In 2009-10, Fussey scored 35 goals in 49 games for the Edinburgh Capitals and was voted EIHL Newcomer of the Year.

Christiansen added, “Having coached Owen before, I know what he brings to the table. There are very few players in the EIHL that have the skill set Fussey does. He will be a great addition to the team.”

A player who might play on a line with Fussey is Colin Hemingway. Colin is another former NHL player, having played for the St. Louis Blues and currently plays for the Belfast Giants.

“Colin is a dynamic player. He is a player who can score goals and skate at the NHL level. This game will need players with speed and a physical presence, Colin has both and has played at the top level in the world.”

Nottingham Panther, Jonathan Zion, another offensive defender who skates extremely well has joined the squad. Zion is a former 4th round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Last season he had over a point a game as a defender and is an exciting talent.  Having played with Corey Neilson all season the two should be great on the power play against the Bruins.

The Boston Bruins match against the Elite League All-Stars takes place on Saturday, October 2nd in Belfast. Tickets are available starting at £40.50. Book your seats now by calling Ticketmaster on 0844 277 4455 logging onto www.ticketmaster.ie or by calling the Odyssey Arena box office on 028 9073 9074.
