New Defenceman Czechs in

The Bracknell Bees are delighted to announce a new addition to their 2010/11 English Premier Ice Hockey League squad - experienced Czech defenceman Valdemar Pelikovsky.

5’11” Valdemar will make his debut in the UK having spent his senior career playing in the Czech Republic, the USA, France, Norway, Slovakia and Italy. The widely-travelled 30 year-old is currently playing for the Sydney Bears in the Australian Ice Hockey League, as he prepares for the forthcoming campaign.

Between 2002 and 2004, Valdemar played for the Alaska Aces and Bakersfield Condors in the ECHL, alongside former Bees stars Kevin Riehl, Jimmy Drolet and Joe Watkins. More recently though in 2008/09, he played in Italy for Varese HC with compatriot and current Bees forward, Michal Pinc.

Head coach Gareth Cox is thrilled to have secured Valdemar’s signature; “We’ve spent a long time looking for an import defenceman who could bring experience to our blue line and I’m sure that Vald will become a firm fans’ favourite. His career path and stats bear a lot of similarities to those of former Bee Jan Melichar.”

“When we heard that he was available, I contacted Michal Pinc to find out more. Michal spoke highly of their time together at Varese, where Vald scored 4 goals and had 11 assists in 32 games. He said that he’d be an asset to the team next season and I know that he will be capable of spending a lot of time on the ice.”

“I also expect that he will be a valuable addition to our powerplay and penalty killing units and has the offensive experience to move the puck quickly to the forwards from our defensive zone. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
