The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
The Bracknell Bees are delighted to announce that Gareth Cox has been appointed as Head Coach for the 2010-11 English Premier Ice Hockey League (EPIHL) season. Gareth is a familiar face at the Hive, having coached at all levels for over ten years, developing some of the foremost young British talent in the EPIHL, such as Sam Oakford at Basingstoke and Dan Davies at Slough. This season he has successfully guided the Bracknell Hornets to Play Off Championship glory in the English National League and the Bracknell Drones to the runner up spot in the Under 18s National Final. Bees GM Stuart Robinson said; “We spoke with Gareth last spring to see whether he would be interested in coaching the Bees, but at that stage he had already decided to commit himself to the Hornets. At the start of this March though, he made it known to Katie and I that if the Bees’ position were to become available this spring, then he’d like to be considered. Following Claude Dumas’ decision to stand down, we spoke to Gareth again and were pleased that he was keen to come on board.” “Gareth has had an outstanding couple of seasons with the Hornets and is committed to developing young, local talent. This season, we were keen to ensure that Bracknell’s assets in both the Bees and Hornets weren’t stripped away, like last year and knew that Gareth was exactly the guy to stop this happening again. Katie and I were impressed with his ideas, the way in which he prepares his teams, his motivational skills and disciplined approach. We believe that he will bring a new dynamic to the team and give us an excellent chance of being more competitive with our local rivals. We’re already excited about seeing the team on the ice in September and are looking forward to working closely with Gareth.” Bees Team Owner Katie Eleftheriou said:”We admired the work that Gareth has done with the Hornets and Drones, culminating in the Hornets winning the Play Offs this weekend. He believes in hard work and is passionate about the game of hockey. These qualities along with many others make him an excellent choice as the Bees coach for next season. Gareth himself said; “I’m delighted to be given the chance of coaching the Bracknell Bees and looking forward to the challenges ahead.” One of Gareth’s first challenges is trying to make sure that some of the key players from the Bees’ 2009-10 campaign aren’t lost and we are therefore further delighted to announce that he has successfully re-signed prolific Czech duo Jaroslav Cesky and Michal Pinc along with inspirational club captain Terry Miles. EPIHL Player of the Year Jaroslav impressed everyone in his debut season in the UK, amassing 119 points (53 goals and 66 assists) in 53 matches. The 32 year-old forward from Prague previously played for Chamonix Hockey Club in the French Ligue Magnus, whom he joined following nine years playing in North America. Joining him again will be close friend and line mate, Michal, a former NHL draft selection by the San Jose Sharks, who amassed an equally impressive 109 points (42 goals and 67 assists) in his first season for the Bees, earning him selection to the EPIHL Second All-Star Team. Like Jaroslav, Michal has spent a considerable part of his career in North America and has also previously represented the Czech national team in the Under 18s World Championships. Gareth said; “Both these players were exceptional last season and they naturally attracted the attention of other clubs. But I’m excited to have them back – two import forwards that I can build the team around.” 5’6” forward Terry Miles also returns for a second season with the Bees, having become a firm fans’ favourite through demonstrating passionate leadership and a “never say die” attitude. The 26 year-old former Slough Jet and Guildford Flame, scored 12 goals and had 16 assists in 2009-10. Of Terry, Gareth said; “He is someone I admired last season due to his work ethic and leadership. He is a good defensive forward who brings as much off the ice as he does on.”
