NIHL North round-up: Stars’ Swedish duo end Sharks’ unbeaten run
- Updated: 5th December 2016
Billingham Stars ended Solway Sharks’ unbeaten record in NIHL North Moralee D1 after coming from behind to record a 3-2 victory.
A stunning strike by Daniel Palmebjork (above) put the Stars ahead, but goals by Daniel Abercrombie and Jordan Buesa gave Sharks a 2-1 lead at the end of the second period.
The home side turned things around in the final session, with Dennis Bostrom’s double securing the points to keep them in the title hunt.
Sharks had gone into the contest full of confidence after routing reigning champions Blackburn Hawks 9-1 in Dumfries – Duncan Speirs (2) and Struan Tonnar (2) topped the scoring.
Markus Kankaanranta, Jordan Bannon, James Parsons and Ryan Kemp all weighed in with a couple of goals as Deeside Dragons added to the Hawks’ woes with a 9-4 home success.
Thomas Soar (2) led the way for Solihull Barons in their impressive 5-2 road victory at Whitley Warriors.
That result completed a miserable weekend for the North East outfit, after they had crashed to a 5-0 defeat at Telford Tigers NIHL the previous day.
Corey Goodison (2) was amongst the scorers for the home team, who are now level on points with the Hawks at the foot of the table.
Laidler D2 leaders Blackburn Eagles had a mixed weekend on home ice, losing 3-1 against Widnes Wild before bouncing back with an 8-3 victory over Hull Jets.
Widnes made it a four-point weekend courtesy of a 9-2 home win against Coventry Blaze NIHL – Danny Bullock hit a hat-trick.
Sheffield Senators’ promotion hopes were dealt a blow as they slipped to a surprise 9-4 defeat at Bradford Bulldogs. They followed up with a 3-3 draw at Altrincham Aces and are now three points adrift of the Eagles.
