The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
The Sheffield Steelers travelled down the M1 with an army of supporters for the first time this season to face their arch rivals, the Nottingham Panthers.
With Steelers wanting to silence some critics and truly identify themselves as title contenders, and Panthers wanting to continue their dominance over the Steelers from last year, this game sold out days ago. Both teams came out flying and Steelers began to put pressure on the Nottingham defence. Both teams took penalties, including one Panther putting a late check to the head of Rob Globke before being sent out of the game. Ashley Tait put the Steelers 1-0 up on the powerplay later in the period. Steelers looked nervy toward the end of the first put held out to lead after the first.
Into the second and the intensity continued, and so did the penalties. Steelers killed a 4 minute penalty to Steve Munn excellently before Jeff Legue put the Steelers 2-0 up with another powerplay goal. That's how the second finished and we went into the third with both teams having two guys in the box and some wide open 3 on 3 hockey.
Into the third and Panthers had their second player thrown out of the game with Galbraith, already sitting a misconduct in the box, going out for abusing referee Andy Carson. Steelers then put the game beyond doubt with Ashley Tait scoring his second of the game, again on the powerplay. Shortly after, David Clarke pulled one back for the Panthers with a well placed shot across the Moose before a third Panther, this time Penner, was thrown out for abuse of the official. To rub salt in the Panthers wounds, Neil Clarke rounded off the goal scoring with a tap in at the far post.
Steelers fans began cheering every pass and as the clock counted down, the army of Steeler fans rose to their feet to celebrate a great Steelers win and an impressive road game. Mark Thomas and Derek Campbell were missing from the Steelers line up, with Thomas expected back tomorrow after suffering a puck hitting his foot in training the day before. Rob Globke has a suspected concussion after the late hit he took and club doctor Geoff Butcher was expected to assess him tonight.
