Oxford crash back down to the ground
Oxford came crashing down after a good opening couple of weeks to the league season with a 7-1 defeat away at Romford in an ill-tempered encounter that saw scraps and penalties dished out across the game.
Stars started well in the match and went half way through the first period after they ended up on a five on three advantage and Captain Darren Elliott opened the scoring for the visitors after a pass across the goal crease from Gareth Endicott. Stars battled on despite from rough play from Romford that saw them take 49 minutes in penalties in the game compared to Stars taking just 16.
Juraj Huska, who Stars coach Ken Forshee called “the best player in the league” in Saturday's Oxford Mail didn't disappoint for the hosts as he scored the first two goals and got a further three assists across the game in a supreme performance. With the score at 7-1 however with a minute to go Raiders Lithuanian import Andrius Kaminskas punched Martin Lee in the head from behind to see him kicked out after Lee had checked one of the Romford players from behind.
Oxford looked better attacking then had done two weeks ago against Chelmsford, another of the league's big four, but the defence let them down and the four third period goals killed the game off.
Speaking after the game, Ken Forshee said "I thought we played to the game plan for the first two periods for the most part but unfortunately we had a bad 3rd period. Credit to Romford they worked hard all night and have a very well balanced team. I think we need to learn from Romfords work ethic and how they took the game to us. Hopefully we will do this in our two very important games this weekend"
