Panthers fly in Molin for weekend
GMB Panthers expected confirmation yesterday that forward Kevin Bergin, currently in a cast, will sidelined for up to six weeks with injury but further medical tests proved inconclusive.
Bergin damaged a foot in Saturday's home win against Coventry but finished the game and played on Sunday in Coventry.
Checks on Monday revealed the suspected fracture. Now we are awaiting further x-rays.
Meanwhile Johan Molin has been lined up to play this weekend for vital games at Whitley Bay against Newcastle Vipers and at home to the Hull Stingrays. He flies in from his home on Friday.
It is possible that Bergin could yet be available to play this weekend but that would very much be a best case scenario. First things first and another visit to the specialist is being set-up.
Ross Dalgleish, who was hurt in the first period on Sunday, is also sidelined with a shoulder problem that's likely to keep him out for a month.
Steve Lee and Tom Norton will be missing because of GB duty this weekend and next.
"These things happen in sport, we have options on the import front with Nick Toneys and possibly Johan Molin, we're working on it," said coach Corey Neilson, who added : "It'll be backs to the wall time, but that often brings out the best in players and we have a lot of leaders on our team!"
It is possible that extra British cover may also be drafted in but one problem is that all the two-way players are also in the GB squad away on international duty.
