An incredible game in Nottingham, once again involving the Newcastle Vipers, who this season have subjected their fans to the lowest of the low and like tonight the highest of the high.

A Vipers side who lost 10-3 last time out in Nottingham but who tonight led 2-0, lost three goals in 63 seconds to go behind 4-2, yet somehow recovered to score twice in 49 seconds inside the final two minutes to claim a remarkable two points and strike a major blow into Panthers' now fading title chances.

Doubles from Mike Berry and Matic Kralj for Vipers with Berry firing home the winner with 39 seconds remaining, while a shell shocked Panthers had a hat trick from Sean McAslan.

It was the visitors who took the plaudits in the opening period as they skated to a 2-0 lead. A powerplay effort by Kralj (22nd) at 7.29 and Berry (25th) at 19.31 doing the damage.

Panthers got into the game in the second, outshooting Vipers 18 to 5 but only scoring  once via the stick of McAslan (31st) at 29.35.

Little sign at that point of the drama to follow. The mayhem started when Marty Gascon (10th) levelled for the home side at 48.04. Only 25 seconds later McAslan (32nd) had Panthers ahead and the lead was two when McAslan (33rd) again hit the net a further 38 seconds on to complete his hat trick. Perhaps crucially Vipers hit back 28 seconds on from there with Kralj (23rd) getting his second of the night to leave Rob Wilson's battlers only 4-3 behind.

It stayed that way until a holding penalty was assessed on Panthers Stephen Lee at 58.27, with Jade Galbraith picking up a 10 minute misconduct at the same time. The Vipers powerplay unit worked and Jason Tejchma (27th) fired in at 58.32. Berry (26th) then rubbed it in by grabbing the game winner at 59.21 to end a quite stunning upset win for the visitors.
