Panthers rocked by Wilson news

Brock Wilson will not be joining the GMB Nottingham Panthers after all.

The American defenceman has been in touch to say personal circumstances have forced him to stay in North America.

Coach Corey Neilson is already on the case of finding a replacement and says he's confident of getting someone in time for the start of the new season which is just a month away.

The development on the recruitment front is frustrating after all the time spent on sorting out contracts, immigration certificates, booking flights, arranging vehicles, accomodation, ordering equipment and shirts and the host of other matters associated with the signing of a player, especially a new player to the country, but these things happen and as one door closes another opens.

Brock's e-mail clearly shows he is gutted and he has begged "forgiveness" from the fans of a team his grand-father played for in the late fifties. In fact, his grand-dad Wink Wilson was about to issue a rallying call to the Panthers fans urging them to get behind the team in the coming campaign and continue to spread the word to boost crowds starting at the opening league game against Belfast on September 4th.

The Nottingham roster is still a strong one and the club will be more than ready for the start of the campaign with pre-season games on Humberside and the twenty-20 tournament under their belts before a puck is dropped in anger.

"Fans don't have to worry about us, I like the look of the squad, and we may have a late vacancy but I'm on it, we'll have news sooner rather than later," said coach Neilson today.
