The GMB Nottingham Panthers had a big win on the ice at top of the table Belfast and there’s signing news off the ice as well with the impending arrival of forward Rhett Gordon.

Flights and paperwork should be sorted out early next week for the arrival of the former Superleague favourite to join the GMB Nottingham Panthers.

The 35-year-old brings a wealth of experience at the highest of leagues having played in the AHL and the IHL before skating out 56 times for Team Canada where he had 41 points in 56 games.

He then spent two years with Ayr in the old British Superleague where he amassed 61 points in 88 games before playing for Sheffield and then for Herning in Denmark where he had well over a point a game. A year in the top flight DEL in Germany at Iserlohn followed, then Cortina in Italy (38points in 30 games) then back to Denmark with Rodovre for 57 points in 36 games.

Rhett then spent three years straight with over 109 points at Ausberg in the DEL. Last year he was with Bolzano in Italy’s top flight and this year has been at Colorado in the East Coast Hockey League.

Panthers' coach Corey Neilson learned that the signing had moved forward when he came off the ice in Belfast on Saturday night and told the website : “That’s made it a pretty perfect day. Rhett is a great player with a great reputation and he brings a lot to the table for us.”
