Panthers win in Whitley

The GMB Panthers were missing six regulars for tonight's game in the North-East. Imports Nick Toneys and Johan Molin were both been drafted in to help cope with the absenses caused by injury, illness and international calls.
Steve Lee and Tom Norton are away with the British junior team. Cameron Mann and Bruce Richardson were too sick to travel as a bug wreaks havoc in the locker room. Ross Dalgleish is out for a month with his shoulder injury. Kevin Bergin's foot injury means he can't play this weekend but the club had a scan carried out on Friday and the good news is that the bone is bruised and not broken as first feared.
X-rays proved inconclusive so the scan was taken and it has at least provided some "better" news from the treatment room.
The game saw three powerplay goals for the visitors who came from behind to equalise through Larocque with three sceonds left in the first period. The only goal of the second period came on the only penalty of the session with Levers on target and the GMB Panthers stretched the lead in the third through McAslan before former Panther Petricko scored the only even-handed goal of the game. Panthers had just eight forwards and four defencemen, Corey Neilson played as a forward and youngster Josh Ward and fellow teenager Will Wheldon had a few shifts in attack.
Coach Neilson praised his troops afterwards, especially McAslan and Levers who double-shifted on the left wing all night.
"Our powerplay was awesome, and proved to be the difference," he said.
